DOMAIN SETUP · 4 min read

Preparing a domain for MailAfrica email

Understand receiving-domain verification and the DNS checks used to send from your own domain.

Receiving and sending are separate purposes

A receiving domain routes mail into application addresses. A sending domain authorizes MailAfrica to send transactional email with that domain's identity. Depending on the workflow, you may need one purpose or both.

Add a domain in the MailAfrica workspace and follow the record values returned by the API. DNS updates can take time to propagate.

Set up a sending domain

MailAfrica generates a DKIM key for a sending domain and provides records for DKIM, SPF, and DMARC. Publish each record at your DNS provider, then request verification from MailAfrica.

All required checks must pass before the domain can be used for outbound messages. Use the exact hostnames and values shown in your account; do not copy records from another domain.

Check your sender address

A verified domain can use its configured default sender local part and sender addresses you add to that domain. The API checks that the requested From address belongs to the verified domain.

Keep DNS ownership and sender changes aligned with your domain administrator, and revisit verification if your records change.

Product details can change. Check the current MailAfrica API documentation for endpoint behavior and payload schemas.
